Lynn Gasner attended Kansas State Teachers’ College, and, afterwards, was a model in New York City and acted in early television commercials. She had small parts in several movies but preferred the stage, and performed major roles with three stock companies in the New England area. She later enjoyed a successful career as a packaging designer specializing in labels and gift cartons for the liquor industry, and was often referred to as “The Box Lady of the Booze Business.” Lynn and her husband Bill moved to Key Biscayne in 1971 and rented an apartment in the Island Breakers while waiting for the Towers of Key Biscayne to be built. They traveled extensively for many years, but Lynn was always happiest to be back in her beloved Key Biscayne. Lynn was a founding member of The Key Biscayne Tennis Association, a member of The Biscayne Woman’s Club, the Presbyterian Church, and of the National League of American Penwomen. Together with Hazel Tomlinson, she initiated and conducted writing workshops at The Towers until her illness intervened. Many of Lynn’s stories and verses have been published in important journals and poetry anthologies throughout the United States. Lynn Gasner died in her sleep in the early morning of Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002. She had suffered a progressive illness with quiet courage and dignity for the past six years. |
